The Plainfield Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that this year’s “Quaker Day” will be transformed into a two-day “Quaker Festival,” including carnival rides, booths, entertainment and of course, the annual Quaker Day Parade. The proceeds of the Festival will be donated to help fund the Miracle Field—a unique synthetic-surface facility that will enable physically challenged youth and adults to maneuver their wheel chairs, walkers and similar devices throughout the field of play. The field is being designed as part of the newly opened Plainfield Youth Athletic Complex (PYAC).
“The Miracle Field is such an important part of the overall vision for this complex,” says Clay Chafin, director of the Plainfield Parks and Recreation Department, “because it will make the recreation opportunities most of us take for granted accessible to those with special needs.”
The Carnival will take place at the PYAC, located just south of the intersection of U.S. 40 and Vestal Road between White Lick Creek and the Indiana Department of Correction facilities. Carnival rides, games and food vendors will be provided by Jessop Amusements (jessopamuse.com). The Festival, with booths and activities, will extend from the PYAC throughout the Historic Plainfield Town Center to the Quaker Church located on Main Street .
“For a number of years the Plainfield Chamber has considered expanding the Quaker Day Parade to include a Festival,” says Chamber Executive Director Kent McPhail. “One of the main components of a successful Festival is a Carnival to provide entertainment. Another component is space for craft booths and other activities. Our desire has been to host this activity in the downtown area. Now that the Streetscape and the Youth Athletic Complex are nearly complete we have a plan.”
The Quaker Festival will begin on Friday afternoon, September 30 and will continue through Saturday, October 1. The parade will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. The Plainfield Chamber of Commerce is accepting volunteers to help with the planning of the Festival, as well as applications for vendors, entertainers and parade participants. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. For more information, to volunteer or to participate, call the Chamber at (317) 839-3800 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
