FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District
Announces 2012 Tox-Away Days
The Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District will again provide four Tox-Away Days for residents of Hendricks County throughout the spring, summer and fall. The events are an opportunity for residents to bring their household hazardous wastes, medical sharps, unwanted medicines, tires, appliances, computer components and electronics to be recycled or for proper disposal.
The 2012 Tox-Away Days will be held on April 14th at the Brownsburg High School, June 2nd at the Danville High School, August 11th at Hickory Elementary School in Avon and October 6th at Plainfield Middle School. Each event is open from 8:00am to 1:00pm.
Lenn Detwiler, the District’s Executive Director said, “Participation at our Tox-Away Days has grown considerably since 2005. Last year we had nearly 2,800 participants through the four events and we collected over 256,000 pounds of material. It’s exciting to see the public really responding and choosing to do the right thing with wastes that can have a significant, negative impact on our environment if they aren’t disposed of properly.”
Common examples of household hazardous wastes include: cleaners, antifreeze, fluorescent light bulbs (including CFLs), herbicides, pesticides, pool chemicals, oil-based paints and stains, fuels, mercury-containing items, medical sharps, batteries and adhesives. All household hazardous wastes are accepted free of charge and will be recycled or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
Electronics, computer components, tires and appliances will also be accepted during the events. Some fees may apply depending on the number and type of items. More information is available by calling the District’s office at 317-858-6070 or by visiting HendricksSolidWaste.com.
Tox-Away Days are open to Hendricks County residents only. Regulations prohibit businesses from using the events.
The mission of the Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District is to promote recycling, waste reduction and responsible waste management within Hendricks County.
