Plainfield is strategically located in southwestern Hendricks County adjacent to the Indianapolis International Airport and just minutes from downtown Indianapolis. Plainfield's location has enabled the town to grow its employer base to include such companies as Becton Dickinson, Eli Lily Co., Brightpoint, and Dicks Sporting Goods in addition to many other employers that occupy the more than 23 million square feet of Industrial Manufacturing and Distribution space in the town.

Metropolis, a regional “Life Style” mall with national retailers, and anchors our retail sector. However, we have neighborhood retail centers throughout the community providing full and part- time employment opportunities.

We also have several local companies such as AMS Machining, Pools of Fun, Matrix Labeling Systems, Trent Electric and Hendricks Regional Health that provide hundreds of jobs in our community.

Duke Energy, one of the largest utility companies in the nation, has its Indiana Headquarters in Plainfield and provides more than 900 jobs in the electric utility industry.

In addition to all the private sector employers, the Town of Plainfield, The Plainfield School Corporation and the State of Indiana Department of Corrections provide hundreds of jobs in the public sector.

The Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership provides the town with current wage, benefit, and labor availability studies conducted by a national firm. This data allows our employers to remain competitive in the market place.
